Well the first day of school has arrived and my girls are off to school, now its my time to figure out what I want to do…..DECORATE!
The changing of the seasons is the perfect time to gather up things you want to make, add or even re-do. I start thinking of all the things I have collected over the past year and what I want to do with them at least a month before I start putting them out.
Remember…always take pictures because it is very hard to remember the things you have done from one year to the next, especially if you are adding more things to the mix. I am the worst for this, I never remember exactly what I did... I remember vaguely but if you love the way it looked one year, easiest way to remember is to take a picture.
This year I decided to add a few new items into the mix for my outdoor fall look. Here's a step-by-step guide for my fall bows!
Thank you for letting me show you the simplicity of my life as I turn it into something chic….
1. I gathered pine cones from around the yard (no idea to buy them at your local craft store!)
I ended up with around 25 because we constructed 4 bows total.
2. I used premade burlap and denim strips purchased online. However, you can purchase the burlap and denim separately at Michael's. In that case, you would need to sew the denim strip down the middle of the burlap (slightly ruching the middle of the material to give it more dimension)
3. Here's the fun part... you're going to begin wrapping the pine cones around the metal wire. Begin wrapping the wire around the bottom of the pine cones, but remember to leave room at the top - you'll need some wire to attach it to the bow!
I used about 5-7 pine cones per bow.
4. To finish it off you're going to attach the strip of burlap/denim to the premade bow, you can use twist ties to secure the two together.
And there you go- you're finished!
PS - they were made for under $8 a piece!
What DIY projects do you plan on completing this fall? We're gearing up for a few more projects before Halloween! Stay tuned
