Halloween has come and gone! I have to say, being my second favourite holiday I was not prepared this year. I have been finding that each year it seems to be getting bigger and bigger. We like to decorate the yard and front entrance, but storage is becoming an issue. Where do we store it?!
My husband and I have agreed that buying plastic containers such as Rubbermaid is not only easier to stack but also keeps the decorations clean and dry. You can find any size or shape of these products at any hardware store, craft store or bigger box stores. Not only do we decorate the outside of our house, but also the inside entrance. I want both to be exciting and inviting to all ages of children.
Outside we have made a mini cemetery just off of our porch. Around the yard we have bones and skeletons to add a scary flavour (not too scary, because we do have a younger neighbourhood!) I inherited a very large plastic, pirate Playmobil figure… this was a huge hit with all the little ones last night having one child even skip around and sing to him - absolutely adorable!
Inside the entrance I used the many black cats and bats we have found over the years. As well I found a wonderful 2 foot high stuffed Frankenstein from Michael’s; I think he just may be my favourite of the night. I grouped them on the sides of entrance so they were easily seen by the little ones. The last thing I hung is a paper ghost I bought over 25 years ago at Hallmark. He is very special to me since I bought him in my early days working in daycare. We have been through a lot together!
Decorating for this night was a labour of love, even though I dreaded it this year, having both the younger children and even the teens, tell us our house was awesome made it all worth it.
Thanks for letting me show you the simplicity of my life as I turn it into something chic.
