HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Let’s start this new year off with some interesting facts about what to expect in 2017. So many new trends, some I didn’t see coming, but exciting none the less.
The first of the big trends this year is the use of terracotta tiles. I didn’t think this would come back from the 80’s but guess what they are back! I also know better... things ALWAYS come back. This time they are matte and used as wall features… interesting and nouveau. Love the matte finish, it's one of my favourite things to use in home décor, from paint finish to tiles, matte is the way to go to bring in a sophisticated look to any room.
CORK! Yes, cork is back. Did you know that using it on walls add a type of sound proofing? It’s true. So, that home office could have an entire wall of cork that not only absorbs sound but looks wonderful and is awesome to pin your favourite pictures and notes too. Love things that have multiple uses.
Another trend this season is the use of dark green. This is another step back into the 90’s where we used this colour on walls and furniture. 2016 had the use of navy blue (one of my favourites) but that one is coming to an end and the dark green is on the rise. A great colour to use brass accents with as well as tan leathers and those amazing fur throws.
Upholstered Headboards. Love this trend. At the moment we have seen many a wooded rustic head board, this trend is being ushered out by the gorgeous upholstered ones that I love. I find these so luxurious and warm. Makes me feel like I am in a high end hotel or maybe that I am a rich celebrity!
This next trend makes me very excited. The use of jewel tones in our décor. Along with this trend comes my favourite of metallic, shiny and sparkle. Silks of all colours in those jewels tones look wonderful added to areas around your home. Even try Lucite and cut quartz to add another dimension to things.
These are just a few of the “new” trends of 2017. I will keep you updated on others as the months go by. Such an exciting time, new beginnings.
Thanks for letting me show you the simplicity of my life as I turn it into something chic.
