Another week has gone by…where has the time gone?
It’s almost time for Thanksgiving and I still have a few things to get done. This week I started working on the last two chairs that need to be painted for the big weekend. I thought instead of painting them, I was going to try spray painting them.
First, I have to take off the layer of varnish that is on the chair so our new paint will adhere to the chair. Remember chairs are used all the time with no thought to their regard! This step is crucial. I am using a block of rough plastic to get rid of that layer….I don’t want to damage the chairs so I thought this would do the trick. You can see the vanish on the pad and the chairs are becoming flat looking instead of shiny.
When using spray paint remember to do very light sweeps across the area that you are painting. If not, you will encounter drips of paint. You can always sand them off but if you are like me you don’t have time to waste going back to do it again.
The picture I have taken is showing that the paint is shiny - I choose flat, this is just because the picture was taken, however it will dry 'flat'.
You will need to move that chair around to get to some of the hard spots on the bottom, place a towel under it or even better, spray the undersides first.
Don’t forget to put the newly recovered seats back onto the chair….this step is the most satisfying part of the job. Not only are we done, but they can be used immediately.
Good luck with your Thanksgiving dinner and ENJOY the fruits of your labour.
Thanks for letting me show you the simplicity of my life as I turn it into something chic.
